University of Bayreuth booth at Formnext in Frankfurt

At the recent Formnext, one of the biggest additive manufacturing congresses held in Nov 2023 in Frankfurt, UBT had the opportunity to exhibit a key development from WP3 in the HECATE project.

Their focus was on a specialized component, designed for aerospace applications, showcasing the capabilities of additive manufacturing using a polymer powder process.

This component is an alternative to traditional sheet metal parts used as housings for circuit boards in airplanes. It is manufactured using a unique lattice structure, optimizing both strength and weight. The design includes a main body and a lid, the circuit board is held in place by screws. These screws fit into threads that are directly embedded into the 3D printed structure.
